Here's a little information about what we here at Pleasant Homes do to support our Morinville Food Bank. 2011 will be the 5th Annual Garage Sale. ALL Proceeds go to the food bank. Pleasant Homes matches exact amount raised from donations from the sale.

The staff at Pleasant Homes enjoy a little bit of mayhem for a few weeks to support this cause. The office get so full, it gets harder and harder to move around. Especially closer to the date of the event. It is all worth it.

Fall is generally when the event takes place, around end of October.  This is a crucial time for the food bank. They need as much support from local business and people, as possible.

Unfortunatley, there are starving families everywhere. Even in our great little town, Morinville. 

We urge everyone and anyone to come out and help support this event. Bring your friends and family. Tell everyone you know. There is always a treaure or two for someone. There is always great items donated to the sale. You'd be surprised. There are actually many people that will come out both days of the sale to find a trinket or couch. Every Year more and more people are introduced to the awesome indoor garage sale Pleasant Homes has. People remember this great event because all proceeds go to a Local charity and the awesome deals and items you can find.

Every year more and more businesses within town find out about our sale. Many send amazing donations from their businesses. To name but a few, Thank you so much for your support, Highstreet Interiors for the wonderful truckload of items. Servus Credit Union, Morinville News, Castle Building Supplies, Home Hardware. Even the Morinville Helping Hand store donated some awesome trinkets.  Many businesses, donate monetary amounts as well. Remember Pleasant Homes has to match the amount donated.

Garage sale beats expectations

The two-day event brought in $2,700 for the Morinville Food Bank Society,

a number that will be matched by Pleasant Homes,

bringing the total donation to $5,400.

After all the fun of preparing and cleaning up the two day garage sale. Pleasant Homes invited the Morinville Food Bank Society representatives come out and accept the Proceeds Donation cheque.

Simon Pleasant Homes Service Manager Says

To partners for global health.

As you may know I am involved with an organization called Flying Doctors of Canada, http://www.flyingdoctors.ca/, the organization reaches out to the poorest communities in Central America. My brother in law Dr. Ben Cavilla started the organization, these past few years the organization has taken a big leap in starting to working within strategic communities, we are now starting to see the results of this strategy. Communities are banding together to see the barr raised in health care and also in social economics. This past summer we were able to meet the medical needs of over 2000 patients, and the dental needs of over 300 El Salvadorans. This would not be possible with out your help. Last spring we had our stove auction; this stove is a sustainable solution for the long term health care to these communities. We raised enough funds for 75 stoves; this community along with the hard work of our team was able to place 110 stoves. Thank you again to the donors.

I walked into my local bank branch the other day and the staff were asking when I was doing the stove drive again, well its here. I have set the barr high this year. I am looking to double our number; along with the stoves we will also be doing water filtration projects in Nicaragua.

I have set up the FDOC Gala, this event will allow us to have a lot of fun, meet new friends and build a stronger community both here and abroad.  Dr Ben Cavilla will be our key note speaker; a silent auction along with a live auction should give us a chance to help raise funds for the needs In both El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Pleasant Homes and Flying Doctors of Canada

Our Service Manager- Simon is a big part of Flying Doctors of Canada- He is the DIRECTOR OF HABITAT AND SUSTAINABILITY.

Simon has traveled to many third world countries over the years in order to help those who are most in need.  His long list of projects includes building homes for Romanian orphans and  building a treatment centre in South Africa for Zulu children infected with HIV to name but a few. 
Combined with his language abilities which include English, Dutch, and German, Simons building skills make him an extremely important component of the Flying Doctors of Canadas multifaceted approach.  He believes very strongly in providing solutions which remain within the framework of local culture, and strives to avoid the imposition of North American values.  He strongly believes that if you teach a man to fish, he will never go hungry again.

Here at Pleasant Homes we like to promote any events that Flying Doctors of Canada are putting together. They all work so hard to get as much support as they are able to get from anyone & everyone.
